2014 Jeep Cherokee - Jeep hopes to quash the controversy over whether the all-new 2014 Cherokee will shirk its off-road roots and become a so-called “soft-roader,” confined to highways, streets and parking lots like so many sport utility vehicles these days.
Earlier this month, frontal shots of the Cherokee were released by Chrysler following leaked photos from the factory. Its official unveiling today at the 2013 New York Auto Show hasn't dulled any of the seething vitriol directed toward the SUV, which is being positioned more as a crossover than a rugged ute to traverse the Yukon. But the Cherokee hasn't completely strayed from its off-roading roots; the Trailhawk trim features a rear locking differential, skid plates, and a ground clearance of 8.7 inches.
Jeep seems to be really proud of what it has achieved with the Grand Cherokee, now that it has been redesigned for the 2014 model-year. It can be seen in the way they show it off, the style of writing that they use to promote it, and in the fact that that they gave it a credible SRT version. Now, fuel-conscious buyers can rejoice, because Jeep's flagship offering can be had with a torquey and efficient diesel engine.

The interior seats five. There’s no third row. One probably wouldn’t fit with the full-size spare I saw under the cargo floor in the Trailhawk model I checked out at the New York auto show.
The Cherokee's also more technologically advanced than its predecessor,
with a rear-axle that can disconnect when its 4x4 capacity isn't being
used, contributing to improved fuel economy of up to 31 highway mpg. The
base model's 2.4-liter, 184-horsepower engine is 45 percent more fuel
efficient than the outgoing Liberty,
and the 271 hp, 3.2-liter V-6 touts a best-in-class towing capacity of
4,500 lbs. Plus, its 9-speed automatic transmission is a first on an
SUV.
In the end, it all comes down to costs, and since for only $2,000 more than you pay for the 2013Jeep which has "absolutely everything" and is a bit better off road, then the latter is the better choice.
