2014 Hyundai Equus gets refreshed for the New York auto show

The refreshed 2014 Hyundai Equus debuted at the New York auto show on Wednesday. The flagship gets upgrades in almost every area, including the interior, exterior, chassis and technology.
From the outside, we can see new 19-inch turbine-style wheels with a polished silver finish. The front grille bars are thinner, with sharper contrasts to the blacked-out portions. The front fascia now has lower air-inlet openings, while the headlights now offer a jeweled design. LED fog lamps are now standard.
Inside, Hyundai redesigned the instrument panel and center stack, with new button iconography for easier feature recognition. The steering wheel has also been refreshed with new buttons and icons. Rear passengers get a new console layout, which works with the available 9.2-inch seatback video screens. Passengers can even find a restaurant and send it to the driver's navigation system.
Hyundai also reworked the suspension on the 2014 Equus to improve ride and handling characteristics. Sport mode is made sportier using the air suspension while normal mode is -- according to Hyundai -- even more comfortable. The front suspension bushings were revised and a snow mode was added for better control in the North's winter months.
For the Signature models, Hyundai enlarged the LCD screen to 7 inches while Ultimate models get a 9.2-inch screen. The climate control now offers three zones for occupants and the cruise control system can now stop the car fully, before continuing on. Ultimate models now feature an automatic power door closer.
Hyundai's 5.0-liter Tau V8 continues in the 2014 Equus. It makes 429 hp, same as a Mercedes-Benz S550 and 376 lb-ft of torque on premium fuel. An eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels is standard. New curb weights haven't been announced but fuel economy will range from 15 mpg in the city to 23 mpg on the highway.
The Equus ownership experience continues with at-home vehicle demonstrations, a five-year, 60,000-mile warranty and an interactive owner's manual application for the iPad.
