It’s the $64,000 question: how much peoples are willing to pay for a Hyundai?
In the US, the South Korean manufacturer has taken on the might of the Germans with cut-price, tech-laden sedans to rival the likes of the BMW5-Series and 7-Series and a sporty two-door coupe that competes against base-model Mustangs and Camaros.
And now the team at Hyundai Australia is looking at reshaping the brand with the two key members of its Genesis-badged family.
The company has confirmed it will import the next Genesis Coupe, a rear-wheel-drive sports car that will rival Toyota’s 86 and Nissan’s 370Z in Australia, and will be based on the stunning HND-9 concept car it revealed at the Seoul motor show
Hyundai has unvieled a new model brand car called HND-9 Venace at it's hometown seoul auto show. The company said the dramatic two-door coupe portends the metal fashions Hyundai will use for it's future models. The HND-9 seems closer to a modern update of the Hyundai genesis coupe.
About the size of a ford Mustang, the rear-wheel-drive sports car has a 3.3 litre turbo V6 Under it's hood producing 365hp. The lack of side mirrors, scissor-style doors and a steering wheel that resembles a Buck Rodgers prop all look like masks for the car's production intent.
The HND-9 is the ninth concept model developed by the Hyundai’s R&D Center in Namyang, Korea. A “modern reinterpretation of an elegant, classic premium sports coupe” the vehicle has an overall length of 4,695 mm, width of 1,890 mm and height of 1,340 mm, with a 2,860 mm wheelbase. In other words, it’s long, wide and low slung, with butterfly doors for full effect.
The most fascinating thing about this car is the absence of side mirrors and that made me ask these questions;
Is it possible to drive a car without side mirrors in any part of the world?
Slightly larger than the current Genesis Coupe, the HND-9 Venace Concept complements its dramatic lines and advanced LED lighting elements with large butterfly-hinged doors. This striking one-off also features 22-inch alloy wheels with carbon fiber inserts. Inside, the car's equally avant-garde 2+2 cabin is framed in distinctive spiral-shaped metal trim and features a futuristic dash and steering wheel design that channels cues from a modern aircraft cockpit. The HND-9's deeply bolstered sport buckets are covered in a trick hue-shifting mesh fabric that reflects different colors based on varying lighting conditions.
While the Detroit-debuting HCD-14 concept previewed the next-gen Hyundai Genesis in a sleek four-door coupe form, this one previews a “next-generation luxury sports coupe” – so we could be looking at the next Genesis Coupe.
